MT Certification (CMT)
There is only one recognized authority for certifying medical transcriptionists, and that is the American Association for Medical Transcriptionists. Beware of "certification" being offered by other organizations, including at least one school. At present, certification is not a requirement to work as a medical transcriptionist, however select employers do require certification. The majority of transcriptionists currently working in the US are not certified. AAMT tests medical transcriptionists in two parts at specified locations and dates throughout the US.
